Filling in The Bald Spots

Yesterday we bought and planted a few perennials to fill in some bald spots. There’s no rhyme or reason to our garden. We really don’t pay attention to plant colors, heights etc… See a plant we like we find a bare spot and put it in the ground. Very minimal soil preparation also. Only the hardiest of plants survive here.
Above is a yellow Coneflower by the name of “Big Sky Harvest Moon”. Below are Bee Balm “Grand Marshal” and “Gardenview Scarlet” and Dianthus “Floral Lace Perl”.

Strawberries

Years ago when I was growing vegetables I also planted a bed of Strawberries. Later the Strawberry bed was converted to a flower bed but I left the Strawberries in place. The Strawberry plants weave their way around Black-Eyed Susan, Coneflower, Russian Sage and more.
I usually just snack on the berries while I’m working in the yard and that’s about the extent of it. This morning the Daughter and Grand-daughter decided to go harvest some.

Dianthus

This one lone Dianthus (Sweet William) has survived several years when others we’ve planted haven’t and it looks great.

Grandson Blake brought us this Marigold he potted at some school Earth Day event at the zoo. He helped me plant it in our garden.

Butchart Gardens, Canada 2005

In September of 2005 we took a trip to Canada to ride bikes and while there we visited the beautiful Butchart Gardens. I was just going through some old photos and thought I’d post these from the gardens.

Painting Clay Pots

This morning after breakfast on the patio the Grandkids painted clay pots for the garden.

While going through the shed looking for pots to paint I found the first one below that our Daughter painted when she was a kid. The second one she painted while here.
