Today In The Garden

Out of the 2 tomatoes and 1 pepper we planted, this one grape tomato plant is the only vegetable that survived. And just barely. What few small tomatoes we picked did taste good.

Painted Lady(?) on Zinnia. I swear butteries are hard to identify.

Box Fan Blade Sunflower

I made this Sunflower pinwheel out of the plastic blade from a broken box fan, a bicycle pedal, a steel rod and scrap of plywood. The fan/flower is just pressed on to the bolt/axle of the bicycle pedal which is connected to the rod. The flower spins when the wind is the right direction. I should have taken the time to make the flower pivot on the rod also but didn’t. Maybe sometime I will. The leaves are one piece cut out of thin plywood and attached to the rod with zip-ties.

Moss Rose

The Moss Rose in the little cistern containers are doing really well despite neglect and this summers extreme heat.

Seed Store And Beauty Salon

Our deck as a seed store and beauty salon. A couple weekends ago the Grandkids harvested Hibiscus seeds which they were hoping to sell. Ally evidently decided she would have better luck selling seeds if she got her hair done.

This Weekend

Nova was away visiting family so I was left to fill the void in her absence and spent time with the kids (doing what I wanted to of course). We went out to eat a couple times, did some shopping for garden supplies and gardening hats, visited a cool nursery, drank limeades and worked in the garden in 109 degree heat.

Vegetables

This Spring, shortly after the bunny ate one of the tomato and the lone pepper plant we replanted them. Here they are today along with the tomato plant he didn’t eat. I should have set up some better cages/support. Right now they are just tied off to stakes.
