Heavy Duti Update
A month or so ago in an effort to lessen the amount of bikes we have taking up space in the garage, I tore down a couple and set them aside, one being the Schwinn Heavy Duti. The Heavy Duti and it’s parts were amongst other frames and parts that I recently offered to my Nephew to build up a bike for himself. He chose a Schwinn cantilever frame and the red wheelset, seat and handlebars that had been on the Heavy Duti. Since then the Heavy Duti frame and fork have been leaning against the garage wall.
I finally gave in to the urge to build it back up. Previously it had been a single speed with coaster brake but this time I would make it a multi-speed with rim brakes. I had already done a 3 piece bottom bracket conversion on it a year ago. I swapped out the single speed crankset for a triple crankset that had been on Nova’s old mountain bike, removing the smallest chainring making it a double. The 7 speed wheelset, the rear derailleur and rear brake lever/shifter I used were also off Nova’s old MTB. I had to spread the rear triangle to fit the wheel. I use all thread with nuts and washers to do this. The derailleur is mounted using a Sunrace hanger I found on Amazon. The rest of the parts include caliper brakes, a brown Brooks B72 , red wall knobby 26×2.125 tires, platform pedals, Black Ops Dawg-Bar handlebar, cheap no name red grips, a front brake lever and a rear rack.
Dang!!
