Another One Of My Hack Jobs

Back in October I posted about this bike and how I’d given it a faux patina. I never cared for the lines of this bike and decided to correct it by making a slight alteration to the down tube.

I didn’t like the angle at which the original downtube met up with the bottom bracket.  I would be using a conduit elbow I had that was the same diameter as the bikes downtube to replace what I cut out. That didn’t go as planned because I only measured once before cutting. So I ended up making a drastic change to the downtube.

The original plan a slight alteration to the downtube.
After the initial wrong cut and determining my original plan wouldn’t work.
So what to do? Something along these lines? Nope.
Or this? Nope.

For better or worse, here’s what I ended up with…

I flattened the tubing some where it attached to the seat tube which is smaller in diameter.

I rode it 20some miles in to the big city to get these photos. If I decide to keep the bike I’ll have to do a little more work on my welds and the patina of the new tubing.
