Monday was the annual Ride With The Mayor which is our town’s nod to bike month. This event is something the bike committee I was on implemented several years ago. The Mayor makes some sort of declaration then leads a short ride followed by random prize drawings where bikes and other bike related prizes are given away. It was a small turn-out this year, possibly because of the strong wind. That’s why Nova didn’t attend. I rode with our friend Tim.
Sounds like a fun time! But is the mayor into bikes and also into the idea of improving bike infrastructure and the amount of butts on bikes, or is it more lip service and PR? (I know that in some cases the mayor doesn’t have a lot of power in the city government, but as the figurehead they do still throw around some weight.)
I think it’s mostly lip service. I don’t think he rides much . When I was on the bike and ped advisory committee he did seem to be supportive of the ideas and plans we had though.
