Fenders And A Tailwind Both Directions

Earlier this week we had some rain so the streets were wet and I needed to go to the grocery store. I drug the parts and pieces of this bike down from the attic and built it up since it has fenders. None of the bikes that I currently have ready to ride have fenders. I really should keep a fendered bike around all the time but I don’t. I suppose it’s because I like my bikes more stripped down. A little less weight and less chance of rubbing and rattling.

By the time I had the bike assembled and was ready to go, the temperature was in the low 60s and the sun was shining. I wore shorts, the 2nd time this year. It was a perfectly timed ride. I had a tailwind going there and while I was in the store eating and shopping, the wind did a 180 so I had a tailwind coming home as well. Along with the change of wind direction though the Temp dropped by 20 degrees and the sun disappeared so it was a chilly return ride.

I had to borrow a saddle off of another bike to build this one up. If I were to keep this bike in service I’d need to tear one of my others down. I could just come up with another saddle but I really don’t want to add another bike to the garage. I’ve thought of adding fenders to my old Specialized Hybrid or coming up with a temporary rear fender/mud guard type thing that can easily be put on most any of my bikes. Something similar to what I did here. I haven’t decided yet what I’ll do.

    1. This particular model (B67) is for an upright riding position and works well for me. I do have B17s which are narrower on a drop bar bike and one that’s slightly more upright than my drop bar and like them. I’m in need of another saddle which will probably be another Brooks but can’t decide whether to go with leather or the cloth Cambrium model.
