  1. I think 1x gearing makes so much sense on flat terrain. It’s one of the reasons I like my Dahon so much. Next year my bike commute will be all virtually along the waterfront – very flat – and I wonder if i’ll do something similar to another bike. My Peugeot 12 speed – 2 front sprockets – could be made into 1 x gears, and by keeping the large sprocket but grinding the teeth into a chain guard. Even don that Randy? Seen quite a few folks do that online.

    1. Yes for where we live and the type of riding we do the 1 X is fine. You may recall on one of my bikes I had a double up front but no front derailleur and I could manually move the chain between rings if I was in dire straights. No never thought of grinding the teeth off to make a guard. Clever idea. That got me to thinking about wrapping a chain completely around the unused outer ring mostly for aesthetics. That would of course be unneeded weight (not that it’s ever really been a concern of mine). Also the decorative chain might rub with the active chain.

    1. I would consider my videos more for entertainment purposes than instructional though lol. RJ knows what he’s doing and tends to do things properly and thoroughly. Thanks for watching. I’ve got another video on the GT I’ll be posting soon.
