Today’s Cool Bike Find
Today my Mother and I had the opportunity to meet with a gentleman within our city government to discuss making our town even more bicycle friendly (hopefully I”ll have more on this later). During our discussion with him the subject of stolen and abandoned bikes that the police collect came up and what a shame it was that the bikes generally end up as scrap metal. He even mentioned one particular cool bike with a banana seat that was currently in the police department”s possession.
Once our meeting wrapped up our host suggested we exit the city building out the back door and take a look at the bikes that were being held. I reluctantly did knowing I”d probably find bikes that I”d want to take home and couldn”t. As we approached the bike rack the first one we encounter is the cool bike with a banana seat….
Why that looks a lot like Grand-son Blake”s Austrian made Steyr muscle bike that he got at last year”s Midwest Bicycle Swap…
A story I haven”t told here on the blog that happened this past summer is that Blake”s bike came up missing. Still not sure of the details on that but at that time our Daughter had checked with the city to see if it had been recovered and was told no. Neither of us pursued it any farther and just wrote it off as being stolen.
Back to today… of course I knew right away it was his bike so we summoned a a police officer, explained the ironic situation and showed photo proof (via my phone and this blog) that it was our bike and then were allowed to bring it home.
Oh and in all my excitement having found Blake”s bike, I didn”t even notice what other poor bikes were there being held, destined for the scrap pile.
Our little bike meeting today was the cake and recovering the bike the icing.
