Cinco De Mayo Cycling
Yesterday we celebrated Cinco De Mayo on our local rail-to-trail. I think some people believe Cinco De Mayo is the Mexican equivalent of our 4th of July but it’s not… otherwise it would be called Quatro De Julio 🙂 In parts of Mexico the holiday celebrates a specific event but here in the states those of Mexican descent use the holiday to celebrate their heritage and for non-Mexicans like ourselves, it’s an excuse to wear sombreros on a bike ride and indulge in Mexican food and drink. We do tip our sombreros and a shot of tequilla to the many Mexicans that since the late 1800s have provided much of the labor that built Americas railroads like the former one we rode on.
