No Longer Amusing

Riding around today in the big city I must have taken a wrong turn as I found myself in an old abandoned amusement park. Joyland more specifically. Assuming I probably shouldn’t be there I hurried to find my way back out… after snapping a few pics of course.

Outside the park the fire department was doing some kind of hose training.

I sure hate seeing it in such a sad state. Several historic rides and attractions are now gone or deteriorated beyond repair. 4 generations of my family have been amused at this park. Good info on the parks history here.

Farther on down the path near the Air Force base.

Later I cycled past these gentleman who appeared to be on their way to the scrapyard with metal in their shopping cart. Where I took the photo from there was a pile of metal and a well beaten trail off the path that led to what I assume was where they were staying in the woods.

I wonder how much of the old Joyland amusement park has been stolen and sold for scrap and how many homeless are staying in its crumbling buildings.
