Tammany Trace – Louisiana 2005

Tammany Trace rail-to-trail – St Tammany Parish, Louisiana June 2005.
We stayed at the Best Western in Covington, LA. We drove to the trailhead in Covington and rode to Abita Springs where we attended the 2005 Louisiana Bicycle Festival. After a few hours at the festival and lunch at the Abita Brewery we rode on to Mandeville and then back to our truck where we started. The next day we drove to the Mandeville trailhead and then rode to the Bayou Lacombe (where the bridge is out) and back. We then Drove to the end of the trace in Slidell and rode to the other side of the bayou Lacombe and back. We rode for a total of approx 56 miles. This paved trail is a nice easy ride with a majority of the trail being shaded. Heat and bugs were not a problem like we were expecting.

On this trip we also visited New Orleans and Gulfport Mississippi where we rode along the beach and around town.
