Riding Around OKC

This past Friday evening we loaded the bikes in the truck and took off for Oklahoma City. The plan was to ride there Saturday and Sunday returning home Sunday evening. Nova is from the Oklahoma City area but spent her 20-some years there mostly in the North end and wasn’t too familiar with the area we were staying and riding so the scenery would be new to both of us. Saturday we rode the river path and in to downtown, Bricktown and a few other areas stopping to eat, drink and explore.
While on the river path we happened upon a rowing regatta in the Boathouse District which is home to the USRowing National High Performance Center, a U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Site. We stopped in at Tapwerks and Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill for a beverage before having an awesome lunch at the vegan restaurant the Loaded Bowl. Being plant-based eaters it’s always exciting to find a restaurant where we don’t have to special order. After more exploring we went to Anthem Brewery for another beverage. More exploring and then back to our hotel.

Sunday the plan was to ride a different path in another area of the city but soon in to the ride we encountered thorns all over the paved path. I assume discharged there by a mower. We had one flat right away and I figured there would be more to come with the amount of thorns we were pulling from our tires. I got the flat fixed and we turned around and rode back to our hotel where the truck was parked. We loaded the bikes and drove to the Bricktown area for lunch at Chelino’s and then headed home.

Was a great weekend overall. I was really impressed with all the redevelopment and bringing back to life of what I’m sure were old and run down areas of the city. Looking forward to returning.

  1. Enjoy your posts & videos. But don’t pan so much. The pans are too fast and blurry. (OKC). I took up biking late, and am looking forward to riding as many trails as you.
