Trial Bike Lanes Planned

Kansas.com report on trial bicycle lanes in Wichita.

A project to see whether bicycle lanes would work on Wichita streets is focusing on First and Second streets.

City Council members expressed interest at an August workshop in painting bike lanes on streets to encourage bicycling for transportation and recreation.

First and Second streets are the primary areas of study because they offer a variety of conditions that would allow the city to see how bike lanes would work, said Joe Pajor, assistant director of public works.

MS Bike Rest Stop Volunteers Wanted

Looking for volunteers to help at the Coasters MS Bike rest stop on Saturday and Sunday, September 12th and 13th in Douglas, KS. We will be supporting those who are riding to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis by providing water, fruit and whatever assistance might be needed. We will set up a display of our antique and custom bikes at our stop. Everything that is needed to assist the riders will be provided.
By volunteering you’ll most importantly be helping to fight Multiple Sclerosis but also get to hang out with your fellow Coasters and show off your bike(s).

Saturday we are required to be there at 8:15am, Sunday 9:15am for 4-5 hours each day. Sunday probably the longer day of the two.

For more info read this.

Ride At The Midtown Historic Home Tour

The Historic Midtown Citizen’s Association has asked the Coasters to participate in their 2009 Historic House Tour on Saturday and Sunday, October 10th and 11th. They would like us to ride around the area of the houses on the tour on old bikes to add a little fun and atmosphere to the tour. If you participate they will wave the $10 admission fee and you can take the tour for free.

To participate ride a bike from the 1950s or older (please no newer bikes or customs, choppers etc…) and ride for at least an hour. Then go to the Fairview Christian Church, tell them you are with the Coasters Bicycle Club and you will receive a wristband which will get you into the tour.

Saturday the hours are from 11:00am – 5:00pm. Sunday 12:00pm – 5:00pm.

Contact Larry or Erick with questions.

Last Night’s Hotel Tour

The Broadview Hotel is a Wichita landmark and as we learned last night, an interesting and colorful part of Wichita’s history. Thank you to Trisha (aka The Flapper) for last nights tour for the Thursday night bike bunch. It was both informative and entertaining.
Please support this grand old hotel in anyway you can whether it be purchasing a drink at the bar or a room for the night. We wish the Broadview good luck in it’s future historic renovations.
I didn’t get any decent photos last night but here’s what I did take. If you have any photo’s you’d like to share please send them to me.
