5th Annual Bikes For Tots

We will again be taking donations to purchase bikes for the Bikes For Tots program.

Bikes For Tots is an organization that collects new bicycles to give to the Salvation Army and local Police who then give these bikes to kids in need at Christmas time.

The Bikes For Tots parade will be Saturday, December 5th.
More details to come.

Courageous Cogs

I had just found out about this an hour or so before it started so I’m sorry I wasn’t able to let everyone know sooner. Thanks to Ty for the heads up on it.

This was a short cruise to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society that went from Rock Island Live to the Shamrock Lounge and back. Once back at Rock Island Live there was food, live music and they raffled off a few prizes including a new Electra cruiser courtesy of the Bicycle Exchange. Several Coasters did attend.

Josh won the Electra raffle bike and ironically his Sister had just won a New Belgium cruiser the night before in a different raffle. At left are the siblings and their new bikes.

Coasters Sag Stop At MS Autumn Classic

Over the weekend the Coasters managed a sag (rest) stop in Douglas, KS for cyclists riding in the MS Autumn Classic raising money for Multiple Sclerosis. We displayed our antique and custom bicycles for the riders to check out as they took a break and fueled up on fruit, Gatorade and water.
Kudos to those who raised money and rode and to the Coasters (Lisa, Erick, Nova, Bernie and Steve) who volunteered.

Photos from the 2 days here.

Coasters At Ft Collins TDF

A few Coasters attended the Tour De Fat in Ft Collins, Colorado over Labor Day weekend. From Dan…

We had a BLAST. We rode with about 10,000, yes that’s 10,000 other bicycle crazy people in the Fort Collins Tour de Fat parade. In the pic you see some Coaster BC regulars, me as rocket man Dan ( I was riding the Starliner, the bike with the nose cone ) , Lora as Pippy Longstockings ( ask her what the purple flappy thing is on the knee of her long stockings), and there is Josh, Brad, and Ruthie ( I bet they will be in costumes next time ) and that’s Jody and Todd in there Bavarian beer drinking outfits ( ask Jody what her biggest challenge of the day was). Then there’s a couple of strangers in the photo ( who am I to call anyone stranger ), well a lot of us know Jon from K.C. ( who was the Champion in the TDF slow race competition ) and a new found friend ( we found him friday when we toured the New Belgium Brewery ) Brad from Albuquerque, N.M. who was decked out in old fashion mr. Fat Tire salesman grab complete with a brand new Electra delivery bike decked out in Fat Tire grab ( I think he was trying to get a job with New Belgium Brewery, don’t ask what he currently does for a living ) .
We had a BLAST. Wish more of the Coasters could have been there. We did there what we like to do here, ride bike and drink beer. And its for a good cause, early figures were over $65,000 were raised for Fort Collins bicycle causes. Plan to go to next years Tour De Fat.

MS Bike Rest Stop Volunteers Wanted

Looking for volunteers to help at the Coasters MS Bike rest stop on Saturday and Sunday, September 12th and 13th in Douglas, KS. We will be supporting those who are riding to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis by providing water, fruit and whatever assistance might be needed. We will set up a display of our antique and custom bikes at our stop. Everything that is needed to assist the riders will be provided.
By volunteering you’ll most importantly be helping to fight Multiple Sclerosis but also get to hang out with your fellow Coasters and show off your bike(s).

Saturday we are required to be there at 8:15am, Sunday 9:15am for 4-5 hours each day. Sunday probably the longer day of the two.

Ride At The Midtown Historic Home Tour

The Historic Midtown Citizen’s Association has asked the Coasters to participate in their 2009 Historic House Tour on Saturday and Sunday, October 10th and 11th. They would like us to ride around the area of the houses on the tour on old bikes to add a little fun and atmosphere to the tour. If you participate they will wave the $10 admission fee and you can take the tour for free.

To participate ride a bike from the 1950s or older (please no newer bikes or customs, choppers etc…) and ride for at least an hour. Then go to the Fairview Christian Church, tell them you are with the Coasters Bicycle Club and you will receive a wristband which will get you into the tour.

Saturday the hours are from 11:00am – 5:00pm. Sunday 12:00pm – 5:00pm.

Contact Larry or Erick with questions.
