Colorado 2006

This vacation was to Colorado where we stayed in Salida, Frisco and Glenwood Springs riding trails in those areas.

Midland Trail, Buena Vista, Colorado 06-25-06. We rode this trail out & back for a total of 9 miles and 2.5 hours. It’s mostly single track that follows the old Midland railroad grade except where the original trestles are gone and you have to ride down into the gulch an back up which can be pretty steep and technical.

Granite ride 06-26-06. This ride outside of Granite, CO is a 7 mile loop of gravel road, single track and double track. The single track was a segment of the Colorado trail. It took us 2 hours. In this photo you can see down to the gravel road where we started. This ride was a pretty good climb.

Boreas Pass, Breckenridge, Colorado 06-27-06. This ride follows an old railroad grade up to the Boreas Pass at an elevation of 11481 feet. This was 13 miles out and back and took 2.5 hours. We’ve ridden this ride before 15 years ago.

Frisco, Colorado 06-27-06. This is a paved trail that runs from Frisco to Keystone around Lake Dillon. We rode this in the afternoon after riding the Boreas Pass in the morning. It was out and back 24 miles for 2.5 hours.

Glenwood Canyon Trail, Glenwood Springs, Colorado 06-28-06. This was an out and back on a paved trail through the Glenwood Canyon. The path shares the canyon with the Colorado river, I70 and a railroad. It’s still a scenic ride and the roar of the river often drowns out the noise from the intestate above. We rode from our hotel to the end of the trail and back 33 miles. Along this path is the trailhead to Hanging Lake so we stopped and hiked up to Hanging Lake which was 2.4 miles total. Riding time was 3.5 hours. I didn’t time how long the hike took.
