Errandonnee 2021

Chasing Mailboxes Errandonnee challenge.

Errand 1
We rode to get our 2nd vaccine shot.

Date: 04-18-2021
Category: Personal Care
Miles: 14
Bike Ridden: Diamondback
Observation: I find it hard to judge how much time to allow to get somewhere by bike. Maybe not so much the time needed to ride but how much extra time I should add for any mishaps that might occur along the way. Today I got part way to the clinic and realized I had forgotten my vaccination card. I returned home for it while Nova waited in place. Fortunately we still arrived at our appointment with time to spare. Now had this mishap been a flat tire I don’t know if we’d have made it in time. Fortunately it’s rare that I have to be anywhere at a set time.

Errand 2 & 3
We rode to the store to get something for a picnic lunch (Wildcard) which we ate in a vacant parking lot. I had some sort of Summer Roll thing. We then went to a park where I regularly pick up trash (Helping Hand).

Category: Wildcard & Helping Hand
Miles: 12
Bike Ridden: Fuji folder
Observations: I tried something new from the store I didn’t realize they had and it was good. People are pigs.

Errand 4
We rode into the big city to check out the art at the Chain Link Gallery. The art on this fence changes every few weeks. We stopped for a picnic lunch and then a coffee on the way home.

Date: 04-21-2021
Category: Public Art
Miles: 22
Bike Ridden: Dumpster Bike
Observations: This vacant lot used to be what they called the Pop Up Park where there would be food trucks and tables to eat at. They closed it off and now display art on the fence. Not sure what the future plans are for the lot.

Errand 5
Rode to a nearby little library to drop of a few books.

Date: 04-23-2021
Category: Helping Hand
Miles: 2
Bike Ridden: John Deere themed Schwinn
Observations: I wonder if these little libraries get used much? I should probably take some time to visit some and browse the books.

Errands 6,7 & 8
We rode into the big city to check out a mural in progress with stops for coffee and history along the way.

Date: 04-24-2021
Category: Discovery, History & Public Art
Miles: 23
Bike Ridden: Schwinn Heavy Duti
Observations: First time having chicory coffee and I discovered I like it. My old grade school built in 1890 is now a history museum. Enjoyed watching the artist Brady Creative making public art. He is the same artist that did the Chain Link Gallery art.

Errand 9
I rode to the old airmail beacon arrow for coffee.

Date: 04-25-2021
Category: History
Miles: 13
Bike Ridden: Rollfast
Observations:  On this arrow shaped cement slab sat a tower and beacon. Prior to radar these arrows guided airmail pilots on their route. This one the route between Albuquerque and Kansas City.

Errand 10
Short ride for coffee. On the way back home I picked a catalytic converter off the road to dispose of.

Date: 04-26-2021
Category: You Hauled What?!
Miles: 8
Bike Ridden: Specialized Crossroads
Observations: It boggles my mind the amount of litter I see while riding both country and city.

Errand 11 & 12
To the bank to make a withdrawal. I then rode into the big city for no particular reason. On the way home I met Nova for lunch.

Date: 04-28-2021
Category: Personal Business and Wildcard.
Miles: 22
Bike Ridden: Schwinn klunker.
Observations: I needed money and to have specific bills for the upcoming swap meet so at the bank I went inside which seemed so odd to do. Somehow the woman at the sushi kiosk new we were looking for the veggie sushi and come out from behind the counter to grab it and hand it to us.
