No Ped Jam This Year For Us
This is a temporary fender I hastily made out of a plastic placemat for the bike I was planning to take this weekend to our favorite bike event, the Pedaler’s Jamboree.
Unfortunately we made the decision not to go. Due to flooding on the Katy trail the ride was rerouted and the distance shortened. Also they were forecasting more bad weather over the weekend. We decided this year it just wouldn’t be worth the drive and $s to attend. In addition to those reasons, with all the rain we’ve had here and more that was to come, we wanted to keep an eye on things here, mostly our basement.
We did get a few hour break from the rain Saturday and rode in to the big city making stops for breakfast at a grocery store, cold brew at a coffee shop, the farmers market, lunch back at the grocery store and then a beer on the way back home.
Below is a video of the Wichita Valley Center Floodway (big ditch) which diverts some of the Arkansas River around Wichita to prevent flooding of the city. You can see it’s pretty full. Also you can see the construction of a bike/ped bridge that’s being built.
Where are you riding by the big ditch?
Where south Meridian crosses the big ditch by Haysville.
