Celebrating National Beer Day

This past Sunday was National Beer Day so we hopped (no pun intended) on the bikes and headed to the big city to celebrate. We decided to stay away from the hip areas and establishments and instead hit up a couple places closer to home. Our first stop was a place we go to once in a great while and we each had the Warbeard Irish Red from nearby brewer Walnut River. Warbeard is a good, familiar to us beer that’s always a safe bet when we’re not sure what else to get.
We then rode around a bit before heading to our next stop which was somewhat new to us. We had been here previously nearly 30 years ago but it has changed hands and names a few times since then. Really glad we stopped in as they have a great beer selection. I had Wanderlust a Scottish red from another Kansas brewer Three Rings. It was really good. I don’t know the difference between the Irish and the Scottish red ales but I’m guessing it’s subtle. Nova played it safe and went with a Summer Shandy from Leinenkugel. Can’t blame her though as Summer Shandy is such a refreshing drink and it was pretty warm out. So warm that I wore shorts for the first time this year. Along with our beers we shared the biggest platter of fries we’ve ever ordered. In addition to the large beer selection something else I liked about our second stop was the big jug of ice water and cups sitting on the bar that we could help ourselves to as often as we wanted without having to pester the bartender. Once our glasses were empty and nothing remained on our fry platter but salt, we headed home.
