Week In Review

Monday I was on my way out the door for a ride when I got a call from my Dad asking if I could go pick something up for him from the auto parts store and bring it by. Once at my parents house I sat around and drank coffee. When I left I decided to go straight home instead of riding any further as the wind was really strong.

Stopped to take a break from the wind on the short ride home from my parents. Notice I’m on Nova’s new bike.

Tuesday I took off on Nova’s bike once again riding in the rural and doing some exploring. I’m really liking her new bike.

Won’t be long I suppose before another harvest begins.

Wednesday more riding around in the rural and a stop at the casino for a cold beverage and ac.

A stop to admire the milo/sorguhm.
It was somewhat cool out on this morning so I opted for a dark beer, Breckenridge Brewery's vanilla porter.

Thursday I rode in to the big city and to the old abandoned amusement park. I had heard that one of the last remaining buildings/rides, the Whacky Shack dark ride, had recently burned. See my other visits to the abandoned amusement park here. On the way home I did some more exploring.

Bike in front of what remains of the WhackyShack.
This little bar has been here for as long as I can remember. Closed for the past several years. I’d never been inside.
Today I noticed the back door was wide open. Other than this cooler it was empty. Such a small space I’d love to have seen it with a bar, tables, chairs etc…

Friday I put a bike in the back of the truck and hitched a ride with Nova to her workplace in the city. From there I rode across the city to attend the funeral of our friend Erick. I made use of one of my new Vaude panniers, stashing inside a pair of slacks, shoes, socks and a belt to change into when I arrived. I wore the same shirt I rode in which was one of my many quick-dry,  button ups. I tucked my shirt in for the first time since the last funeral I attended. Riding home was miserable. 20+ mph wind with 30 mph gusts and 98 degrees with a feels like of 106. At one point out in the wide open on a slight incline of gravel road, I was so fed up with the wind I walked the bike for about a half mile.

At the funeral I was reminded that Erick enjoyed trains. Photographing them, and recording audio of them. On the way home I briefly stopped at the train yard.
