Letting Go

This past weekend I sold 3 bikes at our annual swap meet. What bikes to get rid of was a tough decision but one that needed to be made. Although these were some of my favorite bikes. I found I was rarely riding them.

Hardest to part with was probably my Specialized Rockhopper. More for nostalgia reasons than anything else I suppose. We don’t really “mountain bike” any more and what single track I do ride I do it on a “klunker”. Several years ago the Rockhopper was replaced as my rails-to-trails bike when Nova drug home an old Specialized Crossroads for me.
The Rockhopper has taken me on some pretty sweet rides in Colorado, California, Carolina (the north one) and Canada just to name the places that begin with the letter C. So many other places in-between.
The person who bought the bike said it was for his Daughter and he was glad to find something of quality and in his price range and not having to resort to buying one from Walmart. That made me feel better about letting it go.

#14 was a bike I built up from an old Huffy frame & fork. One of my favorite custom builds and as much as I thought this bike looked cool, it just didn’t ride as good as it looked. It sold as a frame and fork to a friend who I’m sure will have a good time building it back up. That made me feel better about letting it go.

Then there’s the fat-bike the Mongoose Dolomite. A really fun bike to ride but I just didn’t find myself riding it much once the new wore off. I kept it around thinking it would be my winter bike but we didn’t get any snow to speak of this year so that finalized my decision to sell it. A friend of an acquaintance who both seem to be really great guys bought it. That made me feel better about letting it go.
