Bike Build For Dad
My Mother took up bike riding a couple of years ago and purchased herself a new bike. My Dad would join us on a ride once in a while but hasn”t had a bike of his own for 22 years and always insisted on just riding one of ours. For some reason I”m not yet sure of, a couple of days ago he called and asked if I had enough parts laying around to build him his own bike.
So I set out to build something practical like my Dad and this is what I came up with.
The frame, fork, crank and chainguard are from a Huffy Karaoke which I had been building up ounce a year as my Christmas Cruiser and had tired of. Using paint I had on hand I gave the frame and fork a quick coat till I ran out. The rest of the parts a variety of stuff I had. I built it up as a 7 speed with a grip shift, front and rear caliper brakes. Still have some tweaking and adjusting to do and to tidy up the cables.
This morning we went on a short shakedown ride. The bike seemed to fit and work well for him.
I hope when Nova and I are in our 70s and 80s like my parents we are still riding.
Dad had called on Thursday and I had the bike done on Friday. Nova and I used it over the weekend several times to run errands. We both thought it was a comfortable bike.
