My First Cyclo-Cross Race

You can stop laughing now if you”re picturing me in a cyclo-cross race. I didn”t participate. This was my first time to watch one.
This was either the first or first in a long time cyclo-cross race held in the big city. I really didn”t know what to expect not knowing much about the sport other than a few videos I”ve seen on YouTube. I enjoyed it. I thought the course was clever. It centered around and included the old soap box derby hill where our club used to hold gravity races. I”ll climb this same hill for kicks on occasion when riding in the area. Most recently no-handed on the Beast showing off on a group ride.
It”s a fun race to watch. It”s a compact course so you can see most of the course from almost anywhere, especially atop the hill and it”s easy to quickly move around the course especially if on a bike like I was. Each race lasts a set amount of time not a set number of laps. The only things that seemed to be missing from this race compared to what I”ve seen on YouTube is mud, beer and rowdy spectators. The biggest obstacle of this race had to have been the 25+ mph wind. I know I cursed it riding home.
