Crunching The Numbers

Several years ago we I set a goal for us to ride our bikes in every state. No not to or through, just in. I hadn”t bothered to count how many states total we”ve ridden in so I just now sat down to do it. While I was at it I also figured out a few other stats relating to our rides.

As of this writing…

  • U.S. States ridden in: 40 (map here).
  • Countries ridden in: 2. U.S. and Canada.
  • Rails-to-trails ridden: 53. That”s a hard one to figure and is approximate (list of rails-to-trails rides here).
  • First rail-to-trail ridden: Katy Trail.
  • Rides along rivers that share state names: 7. Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee. Some of these rivers we”ve ridden multiple trails on in different states (link to most all of our river rides here).
  • Oceans ridden along: 2. Atlantic and Pacific. There”s also the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Great Lakes ridden along: 2. Michigan and Huron. We have visited all the Great Lakes.
  • Islands ridden on: 4. Vancouver Island, Mackinac Island, Galveston Island and Mud Island.

As for the number of other types of paths, single track trails, rails with trails, boardwalks etc… we”ve ridden, I don”t have a clue.
