Family Tradition

My Dad has told me that his Dad used to tell him a story of how he (my Grand-Father) as a kid would get his bike to the top of a big long hill outside of town and coast all the way back into town. Years ago my Dad took a bike back to this small town and coasted his bike down that same hill. He has wanted me to do the same for a while so Saturday for a Fathers Day gift we drove to Northwest Kansas to coast down the “big hill”. Now coasting down the big hill is a tradition that has been done by at least 3 generations of my Dad”s family and I hope to continue it some day taking my Daughter and Grand-kids to do the same. At the time my Grandpa did this it would have been in the early 1900s and the road would have been dirt/gravel. We had a fun time on our coast and it was a great day spent with Dad, Mom and Nova.

While in the area we also revisited places of my family”s past. First was my Grand-Fathers side of the family.

We next went to the farm where my Grand-Mother”s family homesteaded and the near-by town.

Other photos from the area.

On our way out of town Saturday we caught up with the RAAM (Race Across America) solo leader and cheered him on. After retuning back home later in the evening Nova and I caught up with 3 more of the RAAM riders. I”ll post more about our encounters with the RAAM riders in our area later. There still passing through as I type this.
