How Bicycles Saved My Marriage

Ok maybe bicycles didn”t really save my marriage it just made for a catchy title. Enhanced my marriage is probably more accurate. I”m fortunate to have a spouse who enjoys bicycles and cycling as I do. This month marks 23 years of marriage for Nova and I, and a little over 23 years of cycling together.
I can come up with a lot of sappy analogies between bicycles and our marriage. I”ll spare you all of them but this one…
For me it”s been like riding a tandem with Nova the Captain and me the Stoker who is too busy enjoying the ride to do my share of the pedaling.
Thanks to my Captain and her willingness to pull double duty we always get where we”re going. She never coasts and seldom looks over her shoulder with out a smile.

Prior to being married some of our first dates were bike rides. When Nova found out that I rode, she was quick to make a trip back to her home state to borrow an old Raleigh road bike from her Sister so we could ride together. Bicycles have been a part of our lives ever since.

The earliest photo I have of us cycling together is mountain biking in Colorado 22 years ago…

The most recent photo of us cycling together a couple of days ago in Michigan…

Although it may not be scientifically proven, these photos indicate that cycling makes a woman more beautiful with age and a man more toad-like. I don”t know what the photos say about sense of fashion though.

Our anniversary cards to one another sum it up best…
