Tour De Fat – Ft Collins 2007

This was the most amazing bike thing we’ve done yet. There was an estimated 4600 riders in the parade which could be a *Guinness world record. What a great time!!

We arrived in Ft Collins Friday night prior to the Tour De Fat. The plan was to call Jon and Jackie from KC who were also supposed to be here. Before we tried to call just by chance Jon spotted us driving around town and flagged us down (the John Deere bike in back of the truck gave us away). We decided to meet up the next morning at the festival which we did. The Tour De Fat is put on by the New Belgium Brewery and travels to different cities in the western half of the U.S. The event in Ft Collins is the biggest as this is where the brewery is located. The Tour De Fat starts off with a parade ride followed by beer, live music, acts, unusual bicycles to ride and contests.
Nova and I put on quite a show… while riding in the parade we were touching one another or something and our bikes became entangled and locked together We couldn’t steer and we eventually fell over, me on top of Nova. At least we didn’t require an ambulance like someone else there did.
After spending the day at the festival we met Jon and Jackie later that evening for dinner at a neat place that had bicycles and bicycle memorabilia hanging on the walls.

*I’ve since heard that the parade did not make the world record as it was not continuous. We stopped at traffic lights.

A montage of short clips…

Just a few of the estimated 4600 riders…
