An accident in the fall of 1953 which involved a cement truck and the Rock Island Rocket a passenger train. The train was going south when it struck the truck which was from the cement plant that used to be were Norland Plastics is now located. The driver was killed instantly. People came from all over to view the scene as word got out about the wreck. It took 3 days to get the train back on the tracks and clean up the mess.

Notice the old H sign from the Haysville Motor company (Later Skipworth and then McCollom) car lot. Also the Vickers sign, Pizza Hut and the old Burger Barn(later Dairy Queen).

Dewey Gunzelman lived on Seneca just north of the big ditch on the west side. Before Haysville had a public swimming pool he would allow area kids to swim in his private pool. I believe this would have been in the late 50s/early 60s. The house is still there but the pool has been filled in.
Haysville’s current swimming pool is named in his honor and is located at 525 Sarah Ln in Haysville, KS.

The Haysville State Bank was founded by Fred Stearns and was originally located on South Main and later moved to new building at 107 Wayne Ave. It was later bought out by Intrust Bank.

The Building was destroyed by tornado in 1999. A replica was built over the remaining vault.

In 1993 the City of Haysville held a flag design contest. This flag designed by John Coleman was the winner.
