Celebration Of 50TH Anniversary Of School Opening

CHARTER ALUMNI FROM CAMPUS HIGH SCHOOL PLAN CELEBRATION OF 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF SCHOOL OPENING

Grads Have A Full Weekend of Activities Planned, Including a Catered Barbecue Dinner & Sock Hop.

September 21, 2010, Wichita, KS — It’s been 50 years since the first students entered their classrooms at what was then a revolutionary high school design. Campus High School opened in the fall of 1960 with a physical layout much more akin to a small college campus than that of a traditional high school. With a total of eight separate administration, classroom and activity buildings arranged spoke-like around a circular cafeteria, Campus High was quite literally the “talk of the town”.

When it was learned that the school was planning a gala 50th Anniversary of the opening of the school on the weekend of October 15-17, 2010, a small group of alumni from the first four graduating classes decided that this was the perfect time for them to get together with their surviving classmates. They formed the not-for-profit CHS 61-64 Alumni Association, put up their own website (www.chs50.com) and began to plan a series of special activities just for their four charter classes.

Beginning with a “meet and greet” gathering before the big Campus High homecoming game on Friday, October 15th, they’ve planned a full schedule of activities (listed below) aimed at giving their classmates plenty of opportunities to catch up on what they’ve all been doing for the nearly 5 decades since they left Campus High. They’ve designed the special Charter Alumni logo shown above and have been selling a variety of embroidered reunion apparel items featuring it. Alumni may order these items on their website (they have until midnight on Tuesday, September 28th to do so and guarantee delivery at the reunion) as well as register for the various reunion activities. All net proceeds from these reunion logo apparel sales will go towards offsetting reunion expenses and any excess funds will be donated to Campus High for their use at future reunions.

You Don’t Have To Go Fishing To Catch A Fish

35lb Flathead. Courtesy photo.

For this man Monday started out like any other day at work but soon took a strange twist. While working in a utility easement he heard a commotion coming from the Cowskin Creek below. Upon investigation he found a fish struggling in the shallow water of the creek. He alerted a man who lives in the area to what he saw. The man with the help of his Daughter pulled this large 35lb flat head from the water.
