Luck Has Struck For The Second Time For Haysville Residents

TOPEKA, KAN. – Luck has struck again for the Rozar family of Haysville. In 2010, Pam Rozar won a 3i Show Special Edition GMC Canyon Crew Cab ZQ8 Sport truck from the Kansas Lottery in a second-chance drawing. Today, her husband William claimed a $10,000 cash prize playing a $10 Classic Black instant scratch ticket.

“I bought 11 of the Classic Black tickets this morning and won the $10,000 cash prize on the second ticket I scratched,” said William. “I ended up winning a total of $85 on the other tickets, which means of those 11 tickets, I won $10,085. That’s a pretty good return on my money.”

According to Rozar, he purchases instant scratch tickets once or twice a month and always likes playing new games.

“When I see a new game, I always give it a shot,” said William. “When the Classic Black first came out, I had good luck so I kept playing. I’m glad I did!”

After realizing he had won the cash prize, William and Pam made their way to Kansas Lottery headquarters in Topeka to claim their prize.

“I called our kids while we were on our way to Topeka,” said Pam. “When I called our daughter and told her I had a big surprise, she asked, ‘Did you win the Lottery again?’ Everyone thinks we have good luck.”

The Rozars, who have been married 46 years, have two children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. They were undecided how they were going to spend their winnings.

“Most likely we’ll spend a little on more lottery tickets,” said William.

The winning ticket was purchased at Diamond Shamrock, located at 115 W. Grand Ave., in Haysville.

Haysville – The Rodney Dangerfield Of Small Towns

Just like the late comedian, Haysville gets no respect.
At a recent Jeff Dunham show in Wichita, the ventriloquist/comedian likened Haysville to hell.
A show now running at the Mosley Street Melodrama is titled “The Dukes of Haysville or the Hazzards of Going Down South…of Wichita”. I haven’t seen the play but I’m sure it pokes fun at Haysville and the South end.

I could list all the derogatory names I’ve heard Haysville and it’s citizens called but I wont. You’ve probably heard them all too. Especially if you know someone from Derby.

When and why did Haysville get this reputation?

Just a few quotes I found on the internet referring to Haysville…

“I dont like Bobby and never will, hes fake and white trash. Hes from Haysville so that can tell you something.”

“Why do people call Haysville “The white trash capital of KS?” I’ve heard that many times. Maybe it doesn’t apply anymore after the tornado? Everything’s new. ”

“My vehicle stalls out if it crosses Douglas st. to the south. Whole different breed of folks down there.”

“because the Haysville white trash don’t care ”

“i went garage sale’n in haysville or shall i say redneck city”

“I live in Haysville, and wish I could move. People that live there are the dumbest, blue collar union people anyone could ever imagine… I can’t wait to see this hole get annexed into Wichita and all the rednecks kicked out”

“9/10 people down THERE don’t carry auto insurance. A dentist would starve in that town.”

What’s a Haysvillian to do? Defend yourself and your town from this bad reputation (deserved or not ) or embrace it?
The area band Soulicit chooses to embrace it in songs of there’s such as Dirty South.

Architect, Recommended To Design New Haysville Fire Station

From the Wichita Business Journal…

The Sedgwick County Commission will consider at its meeting Wednesday whether to award an $84,500 architecture and engineering contract to Richard B. Kraybill, Architect, for a planned new fire station in Haysville.

The contract was recommended by the county’s board of bids and contracts.
