It’s official: Campus High School will offer the International Baccalaureate diploma program.
Administrators at the Haysville high school learned this week that they met the requirements to be an IB school. They plan to enroll their first class of 40 to 50 juniors into the prestigious college preparatory program this fall.
“I couldn’t be more excited. I was near tears,” said Joe Sailors, an assistant principal at Campus and coordinator of the IB program.
The Haysville Sun-Times is being acquired by Times-Sentinel Newspapers LLC, effective Feb. 11.
The Sun-Times has been published by owner Marc Campbell for the past five years. Campbell said he’d been looking for someone to take over the local newspaper, and launched discussions with Times-Sentinel owner Paul Rhodes late last year.
“I’m excited that Paul and his staff were ready to take on this newspaper, and that we could finalize the sale of the newspaper in such short order,” said Campbell. Campbell also owns and operates True Value Hardware in Haysville, and said he wants to concentrate his energies on the hardware store. Campbell has owned and operated the True Value store for nine years.
He said he wanted to sell the Sun-Times to someone who could bring a new energy level to the newspaper, and would be committed to keeping the paper alive.
Rhodes said that’s exactly his plans for the Sun-Times.

Campus bowling sweeps home tourney in shocking fashion
There may not have been a more disappointed team in the entire state of Kansas Saturday than the Derby girls’ bowling team.
It was announced that Campus and Derby finished with the same overall score so it was sent to a tiebreak. The determining tiebreak was which team bowled a higher high game.
Campus 213, Derby 214. Derby had just won the first annual Campus Bowling Invitational. So along the awards ceremony went, right into the boys’ finishers. A Seneca Bowl worker then approached the medal table and had a short discussion with the announcer.
