This summer the Wichita Highlanders semi-professional baseball team will be playing at Vulcan Park and are considering making Haysville their permanent home.
Monday the Haysville Board of Education chose John Burke to fill the position of superintendent for the district. Dr. Burke is currently superintendent of Neodesha schools. Perry McCabe had been filling the position since the death of Kristen Swartzendruber in September.
23 year old Dalen Rosiere is off to Albuquerque New Mexico to compete in his first Pro Bowlers Association Regional Tournament with hopes of moving on to the Nationals. A long time Haysville resident and 1998 graduate from Campus High School, Dalen has been bowling as long as he can remember, joining his first league at age 5 and winning the state championship at age 7. Until recently it looked as if incumbent Mayor Bruce Armstrong would run unopposed in the upcoming election. Now its deja vu as Emily Cerullo-Ames has entered the ring for a 2nd bout against Mayor Armstrong. The election for Mayor and some city council seats will be held on April 1st this year.

Firefighters were dispatched to a house this morning that caught fire in the 900 block of west Grand.
Neighbors had reported seeing smoke coming from the house. No one was home at the time of the fire. The fire was believed to have started in the basement and caused an estimated $40,000 in damage.
If you travel on north Main street you may have already noticed the two new businesses that will be coming to town. An True Value hardware store will be occupying the space that was once Leekers in Marvins Hillcrest Plaza. Just south of there between Dairy Queen and Beehler Realty, ground is being broken for a new building that will be the Main Street Liquor Outlet and Smoke Shop.
Its been known by several names in the past most recently Dutchs. The restaraunt located just south of 71st on Broadway has changed hands and will now be called The Old 81 Diner.
