Grand is now closed at the railroad tracks as construction continues on the new railroad overpass. To get from one side of Haysville to the other you may use 63rd and 79th streets.
Due to the railroad construction Grand has been narrowed to two lanes where it crosses the railroad tracks. Expect traffic to be backed up on Grand. Also be prepared to be stopped to allow for trucks hauling dirt to cross Grand.
Grand is expected to be closed entirely September 2nd.
Towering above the Historic District is the parks newest addition a windmill. The windmill is positioned behind the bank and blacksmith shop and next to the historic Wire house. For early area residents water pumping windmills provided water for agriculture and livestock.
The Haysville Times reports that Campus Senior Jeri Shepherd took first place last weekend in the heavyweight division of the power lifting competition at the National Athletic Strength Association National Power Lifting and Power Sports Championships. In addition to taking first place Jeri also broke the worlds record for Womens Teenage World Heavy Lifting with lifts consisting of a 441lb squat, a 182lb bench press, and a 385lb dead lift. Congratulations Jeri!

Lina Volgamore a Haysville resident and second grade teacher at Oatville Elementary died Monday the 10th.
Monday the Haysville Board of Education chose John Burke to fill the position of superintendent for the district. Dr. Burke is currently superintendent of Neodesha schools. Perry McCabe had been filling the position since the death of Kristen Swartzendruber in September.
Until recently it looked as if incumbent Mayor Bruce Armstrong would run unopposed in the upcoming election. Now its deja vu as Emily Cerullo-Ames has entered the ring for a 2nd bout against Mayor Armstrong. The election for Mayor and some city council seats will be held on April 1st this year.

Firefighters were dispatched to a house this morning that caught fire in the 900 block of west Grand.
Neighbors had reported seeing smoke coming from the house. No one was home at the time of the fire. The fire was believed to have started in the basement and caused an estimated $40,000 in damage.
