Haysville Woman Listens to Instincts – Wins $20,000

TOPEKA, KAN. –Some say, you should always listen to your instincts, which is exactly what Rebecca Cole did yesterday afternoon when she purchased a $5 Monopoly instant scratch ticket. The Haysville resident had a feeling it would be a big winner and it was! Cole revealed a $20,000 top prize playing the game.

“My husband James bought a ticket and I had a feeling the next ticket would be a big winner, so I went ahead and bought it,” explained Cole. “When I saw that it was worth $20,000 I thought, no way. I must be reading this wrong.”

After carefully looking over the ticket, Cole and her husband went back to the convenience store to have a clerk verify their win.

“The clerk scanned the ticket, then looked at me and said, ‘Merry Christmas. You won $20,000,’” said Cole. “I put the ticket in my purse until today. We have destructive dogs and I didn’t want them chewing it up.”

According to the Coles, they play lottery games at least once a week.

“We buy nothing less than $5 games,” said James Cole. “On occasion, Rebecca will buy $2 Bonus Crosswords. We have won $100 several times on the higher priced tickets.”

The Haysville residents, who have been married five years, plan to pay off a car loan with their winnings and save the rest.

The winning ticket was purchased at Diamond Shamrock, located at 115 W. Grand Ave. in Haysville.
