We added a new little piece of Haysville history to the collection today. This is an 8×10 photo of what I believe to be a City of Wichita bus, parked at the old Wichita transit building on West 10th street in Wichita. On the bus is an ad for the Haysville Motor company in “Downtown Haysville” which was just North of Grand (71st) on Main (Seneca) on the East side of the street.
In this old photo you can see the H from the original sign to Haysville Motor company.
HAYSVILLE – Desmarteau, Marguerite Louise, 81, went to her heavenly home on Dec 26 after gracing us with one last Christmas (photo Christmas Eve). Marguerite was born Nov 25, 1930 in Nardin, OK to Edith and Ora Holmes. Sometimes called “Billie”, Marguerite met the love-of-her-life Melvin at Palco high school. They were together 45 yrs when Mel passed in 2002. At 17, Marguerite taught in a 1-room schoolhouse. She had to prepare lunches, tend the fire and clean. Having taught for 34 years, she received a Master Educator award. Haysville students have fond memories of her.
