Haysville Martial Arts Student Earns Spot At National Tae Kwon Do Championships

Eric Matthews (pictured), 16, of Haysville, Kansas received gold medals in both sport poomsae (forms) and Olympic-style sport kyorugi (sparring) in the 2013 KTA Kansas State Tae Kwon Do Championships in Overland Park, Kansas, on Saturday, March 16th.

With these medals, Eric, a student at Black Eagle Martial Arts in Haysville and Derby, qualifies to compete in the 2013 USAT National Tae Kwon Do Championships to be hosted July 3-9 in Chicago.

Eric was coached at the 2013 Kansas State Championships by Master Richard DeCou, 6th Dan, head instructor at Black Eagle Martial Arts.

The 2013 Kansas State Tae Kwon Do Championships was sponsored by the Kansas Taekwondo Association (KTA). The KTA is recognized by USA Taekwondo, the national governing body for the Olympic sport of Tae Kwon Do in the United States, as the official Taekwondo organization for the state of Kansas.
