Based on “The Princess and the Pea” by Hans Christian Andersen, Once Upon a Mattress centers around Princess Winnifred who arrives at Prince Dauntless the Drabs castle hoping for the hand of the prince. His mother, Queen Agravain, insists that her son can only marry a princess of true blood (one who can feel a pea that is underneath a pile of mattresses). Carried on a wave of wonderful songs through this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance, Once Upon a Mattress provides side-splitting shenanigans that appeal to audience of all ages. Chances are you’ll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again.
