Broadview Hotel Tour – August 27th

The Broadview Hotel contacted me and wanted to set up another date for the Historic Flapper tour. You may recall the last time didn’t work out.

Here are the details again…
Meet at the Shamrock as usual then we’ll ride to the Broadview where we are expected to be there by 8:00pm. There is a limit as to how many can attend so we’ll have to work this out amongst ourselves if we have too many.
This is a free tour intended for regular riders of the Thursday Night Pub Pedal. All that is asked in return is that you only participate if you are truly interested and give your full attention and respect to our host and guide at all times.

What you can expect on the tour…
Colorful Tales
Local History
Famous People
Unexplained Happenings
Legends of The Broadview Hotel come alive
Story telling from our famous “Speak Easy” to our 8th floor famed roof top garden.

Wichita Bicycle Collective

From Craigslist ad

so here’s the deal- some fellow cyclists and I are working on a community bike shop, a non-profit co-op with the goal of promoting bikes as viable transportation by teaching bicycle maintenance and repair while recycling discarded or donated bicycles into affordable, sustainable transportation. We’re calling it the Wichita Bicycle Collective. These types of organizations exist in many other cities and we feel Wichita is long overdue for a little progress in this area. To learn more, visit bikecollectives.org, If this is something you’d like to see happen, we need your help! Donate your time, money, or old bikes or parts and tools, the most important part of a community bike shop is the COMMUNITY, and it won’t happen without YOU.

The Wichita Bicycle Collective website says it is coming soon and has a contact link.

Last Night’s Pub Pedal

Although things didn’t go as planned (no hotel tour) it was still a great evening for cycling and socializing with friends. Whether it was the tour or the nice evening that got people out I think all were rewarded with a good time.

As for the tour there was simply a misunderstanding between the parties planning it.

Here’s you some Broadview Hotel history in a nutshell… What ever cool historic things happened in this 1920s hotel probably began when someone stepped through these magnificent doors and strode across the checkered floor of this grand lobby just as we did last night.

Bicycle Skills and Safety Clinics

The Wichita Police Depatment’s annual bicycle Clinics are held in June and July. They are FREE and open to children ages 6-11.
From the Police Department’s website…

These clinics are designed to teach skilled and safe bicycle riding and include classroom instruction, films and skill instruction on bicycle skilled courses. The clinics will include a presentation by a trauma nurse from via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus about bike helmets use. Each child will be limited to attending one of the six-hour days provided for his/her age group.
