Swap Meet Tips

Here are a few tips for the upcoming Midwest Bicycle Swap

Swap Meet Tips for Buyers

1. Get to the swap meet early. This is especially true if you are seeking a particular item
2. Bring cash and plenty of small bills
3. Bring a friend. Four eyes are better than two. If you are seeking something in particular then split up
4. Don?t be afraid to negotiate. Ask how much the item is and then do your own appraisal, if you think it is worth less, then offer less and see where it goes.
5. When the swap meet is winding down and some sellers will start packing up their unsold stuff. This is a prime time to get deals on items that did not sell during the day. (rather than hauling it all the way home)

Swap Meet Tips for Sellers

1. Get to the swap meet early so you can snag a prime selling spot!
2. Bring cash and plenty of small bills
3. Display your items on Tables or at least Tarps, Organize parts by category, i.e. frames, forks, wheels, etc.
4. Price your items, but be open to negotiations
5. Offer plastic bags to buyers of small parts, its hard to tote around six different pairs of pedals, along with fourteen assorted grips, one super cool skiptooth chainring, and three balloon fenders

Tips For Everyone

1. Put on sunscreen
2. Bring water
3. Anything else to keep you comfortable especially if you’re planning on “making a day of it”

End Of An Era

It was bound to happen I suppose. What made this club great (carefree attitude, whimsical nature & lack of organization) was also the cause of it’s demise. Just got word earlier today via one of those letters you have to sign for that an older, more organized, more respected local bicycle club (which for now will go unnamed) has bought the rights to the Coasters Bicycle Club name & it’s events with plans to fold it into their existing club. Changes will take effect April 31st 2010.

If you want to stick around I suggest you trade those apes for drop bars and your cut-offs and sandals for spandex and clipless shoes.

Me… I don’t look so good in spandex so I’m outta here :-(

WICHITA ? A thief stole a boy’s bike in west Wichita Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The theft occurred at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 3600 block of West 13th, police said. The 13-year-old boy was pushing his bicycle toward the front of the apartment building in which he lived when a man ran up, pushed him aside, grabbed the bike and threw it in the back of his pickup.

Possibly Burglar On Bike That Stole Coins

From the Wichita Eagle

The owner of the restaurant at 447 N. St. Francis noticed the coins missing from a register at about 11:30 p.m., then saw a man riding north from the restaurant on a red bike.

About $15 in coins was stolen, the owner told police
