You have a an opportunity to provide comments to the Wichita City Council about whether:
1. the Wichita Bicycle Master Plan should be an official guide;
2. the City should create a Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board;
3. the City should apply for funding for bicycle projects.
The Wichita Bicycle Master Plan is scheduled for presentation to the City Council on February 5th. The Council Members will have an opportunity to ask questions, receive public input, and take action. Individuals who wish to provide public comments are encouraged to do so either in person at the meeting or in writing. If you would like to provide input but are unable to attend, then you can submit written comments to the City Council Members. Their contact information is available on the City web site (link below).
The City Council is also scheduled to consider approval of an ordinance to create a Wichita Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board. The Wichita Bicycle Master Plan (Strategy 27) recommends the creation of the Board in order to accomplish many things, including: creating on-going accountability; and identifying opportunities to improve conditions for bicycling and walking in Wichita. The recommended action for the City Council is to create the Board, not to appoint individuals at the February 5th meeting. More information about this recommendation is available in the Plan document and is available in the staff report.
In addition, the City Council is scheduled to consider approval of applications from the City to WAMPO and KDOT for Transportation Enhancements (TE) funding to undertake bicycle projects. The bicycle projects include new paths, lanes, racks, signs, and educational efforts.
You can access a link to the agenda with staff reports below. The City Council meetings begin at 9 am and are held in City Council Chambers on the 1st Floor of the Wichita City Hall (455 N. Main Street). Staff estimate that the bicycle items will be heard by the City Council no earlier than 10:30 am.
