Tear Down, Build Up, Repeat

Always trying to make more room in the garage, Friday I tore down a bike I hadn’t been riding much lately. I stashed away the frame and as I was about to put away the wheels I got to thinking how good they’d look on a seafoam green frame I had stashed away.

So I built it up. This is a never ending cycle with me (no pun intended).

The frame and fork were originally a cheap Roadmaster mtb that I found at a dumpster a few years ago. I had stripped it, painted it and built it in a slightly different configuration and rode it quite a bit. Some time ago I tore it down and stashed the frame away.

Looking at this photo I notice I need to level the rear rack and flip the front wheel around.

The tires are 26×2.4 and barely fit between the stays. I can see this becoming an issue if I continue to ride it. Other parts include a Brooks saddle, Profile sprocket, plastic platform pedals, BMX stem and handlebars and I just happen to have some orange grips to match the wheels although a bit grungy.

  1. Never ending but fun stuff..Good for you..looks nice..never underestimate the power of a old steel frame!!!

    1. Thanks. Yeah these steel frames are bulletproof. In combination with the steel wheels most of my bikes way a ton. Lucky for me I’m never in a hurry lol.

  2. You are very talented with bike builds, and repeating the exercise only makes you better! I am all for not being in a hurry when riding bikes ;’-). NIce looking bike here.

    1. Thanks Nancy. That’s what I like about these single speed, coaster brake, cruiser type bikes. They’re easy to work on with limited skills and tools. For me having a variety of bikes to ride and tinker on keeps things from getting stale.
