The first Ride 'Round Town was great fun! Starting from Tom Sawyer Bicycle Shop we took a casual cruise around the South Central part of Wichita stopping along the way to tour a late 1800s home, the beautiful old Grace Methodist Church and a 1953 fire station turned home. The ride ended back at Tom Sawyer Bicycle where we enjoyed hot dogs, drinks and prizes.
At our second stop I counted 70 bicycles. I heard of someone else counting at least 80 at one point.

Thanks to Tom Sawyer Bicycle, Mr. Larry, the Health and Wellness Coalition of Wichita and especially those who opened up and welcomed us in to their homes and buildings.

This will be an approx. 5 mile leisurely cruise on bike lanes, paths and streets through Wichita's South Central neighborhood with stops to tour some of the area's historic buildings. Hot dogs at Tom Sawyer after the ride.
This is a free, fun for the whole family event! Ride at your own risk and ride safely.

Parking for vehicles has been made available at the Selfs Inc. parking lot at 721 E Mt Vernon just 4 blocks East of Tom Sawyer. Thank you to Selfs Inc.

The Historic Midtown Citizen's Association has asked the Coasters to participate in their 2009 Historic House Tour on Saturday and Sunday, October 10th and 11th. They would like us to ride around the area of the houses on the tour on old bikes to add a little fun and atmosphere to the tour. If you participate they will wave the $10 admission fee and you can take the tour for free.

To participate ride a bike from the 1950s or older (please no newer bikes or customs, choppers etc...) and ride for at least an hour. Then go to the Fairview Christian Church, tell them you are with the Coasters Bicycle Club and you will receive a wristband which will get you into the tour.

Saturday the hours are from 11:00am - 5:00pm. Sunday 12:00pm - 5:00pm.

The Broadview Hotel is a Wichita landmark and as we learned last night, an interesting and colorful part of Wichita's history. Thank you to Trisha (aka The Flapper) for last nights tour for the Thursday night bike bunch. It was both informative and entertaining.
Please support this grand old hotel in anyway you can whether it be purchasing a drink at the bar or a room for the night. We wish the Broadview good luck in it's future historic renovations.

The Broadview Hotel contacted me and wanted to set up another date for the Historic Flapper tour. You may recall the last time didn't work out.

Here are the details again...
Meet at the Shamrock as usual then we'll ride to the Broadview where we are expected to be there by 8:00pm. There is a limit as to how many can attend so we'll have to work this out amongst ourselves if we have too many.
This is a free tour intended for regular riders of the Thursday Night Pub Pedal. All that is asked in return is that you only participate if you are truly interested and give your full attention and respect to our host and guide at all times.
