Uncle Sam would have been proud. A great turn out of patriotically decorated bikers and bikes. The weather was great and as always we had a great time. Of course stars, stripes and red, white & blue was the theme of the evening. The decorations ranged from flags, streamers and pinwheels to bikes painted in our flags colors. Something different last night was Merle's as our second stop on the ride. Thanks to our host at Merle's for handling our surprise invasion so well. Thanks to everyone for coming out and putting forth the effort to decorate yourselves and bikes.

so here's the deal- some fellow cyclists and I are working on a community bike shop, a non-profit co-op with the goal of promoting bikes as viable transportation by teaching bicycle maintenance and repair while recycling discarded or donated bicycles into affordable, sustainable transportation. We're calling it the Wichita Bicycle Collective. These types of organizations exist in many other cities and we feel Wichita is long overdue for a little progress in this area. Friday afternoon, June 26, a man on a bicycle attacked Operation Rescue's national headquarters in Wichita, Kansas, and attempted to disable the security system. There were four people working in the office at the time.

Tandem Night III

Our biggest turn-out yet! I believe we counted at least 20 tandems. Old, new, factory, home-made, steer-from-rear and even one side-by-side. A couple of broken chains and one flat stopped some from riding the whole evening. Thanks to everyone for participating.

Last Night's Pub Pedal

Although things didn't go as planned (no hotel tour) it was still a great evening for cycling and socializing with friends. Whether it was the tour or the nice evening that got people out I think all were rewarded with a good time.

As for the tour there was simply a misunderstanding between the parties planning it.

Here's you some Broadview Hotel history in a nutshell... What ever cool historic things happened in this 1920s hotel probably began when someone stepped through these magnificent doors and strode across the checkered floor of this grand lobby just as we did last night.

Bicycle Skills and Safety Clinics

The Wichita Police Depatment's annual bicycle Clinics are held in June and July. They are FREE and open to children ages 6-11.
From the Police Department's website...

These clinics are designed to teach skilled and safe bicycle riding and include classroom instruction, films and skill instruction on bicycle skilled courses. The clinics will include a presentation by a trauma nurse from via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus about bike helmets use. Each child will be limited to attending one of the six-hour days provided for his/her age group.

Looked like a good turn out and a lot of groovy people and bikes. Since I didn't ride maybe some of you can comment on how it went. Where I sat the crowd around me seemed to enjoy the bikes. Thanks to Erick for handling the business end of the parade.
