Sunday, September 27. 20092009 Midwest Bicycle Fest Recap
Wow what a great day! I think it's safe to say this was our biggest turnout yet. It's so hard to get an idea of how many people showed up but I know we went through a lot more food and water than in past years. Many new people and new bikes. I estimate close to 300 bikes. There were a little over 100 bikes entered in the People's Choice competition alone. The weather cooperated and was in the upper 80s with a nice breeze. The reigning Skid Row champ was defeated. A large parade ride and from what I hear I was fortunate to be in the front (can Harpo see into the future? Listen for him in the video).

Skid Row contest: First a correction. We had announced Matt as the 1st place winner but it was actually Tyler. 1st place: Tyler M. 218.3 2nd place: Matt 209.2 feet 3rd place: Derick 199.7 I must add that is was so cool to see a custom made skid bike even though it didn't win. Lowride Limbo: Scott and Morgan (siblings and last year's 1st & 2nd place) tied for 1st. Peoples Choice Kustom: Randy French with his yellow, monster rear tired chopper. Peoples Choice Classic: Steve Stang with his Schwinn Grillmaster's Choice - Ratrod: Paul Riley and his 1948 Colson. Raffle bike winner: I didn't get the name. Congrats to all the raffle prize winners. "There's nothing sexier than a woman with new tires." Thank yous... Sponsors: Tom Sawyer Bicycle Shop, AtomicZombie.com, Bill at Accent Mobile Music, ButterflysGiftShop.net and Kickstand magazine. Volunteers: My Parents and Nova for their hard work before, during and after the fest. Grillmaster Mitch for the excellent lunch and the new Ratrod trophy. Erick for a fine job of informing us and entertaining us as MC, Christine this year's prize lady, Daron for his exhausting work giving rides on the Conference Bike, Paul for his help with the Skid Contest, Lora for being a Lovely Limbo Lady, Kris & Morgan for their help with the People's Choice. Bicycle Randy & Dave for their donations. Anyone else who stepped up when help was needed. Another MW bike fest is over, and it was great fun. Thanks to all that made it happen and to all that participated. If the rest of the world just new what fun a bicycle can really be, it would be a better place. Its that common thread, the bicycle, that brings the good people together for a day of fun. To see and enjoy the thought and creativity that is a custom bike , and to see the results of the careing about the past that goes into the finding, restoreing, and maintaining of the original bikes, and the people that do this are awesome. I just wish time would pass a bit slower so we all can spend more time together. It was a great time.....ride on.
Just a guesstimate... I would say close to 300 thru the chow line. Fun Midwest Bikefest Food facts: 208 hot dogs and buns, whoops make that 205 dogs... forgot three died in the fire (may they rest in peace), 30 pounds of pulled pork, 234 oz. of baked beans (with 2 pounds of bacon and 3 ponds of smoked pork tenderloin), 96 hamburger buns, 3 quarts of BBQ sauce, 80 oz of ketchup, 60 oz. of mustard, 3 pounds of chopped onion, 20 pounds of charcoal, and 37 burnt knuckle hairs.
Plus many many cases of water! Big thanks to Nova for making a emergency run to the store for more dogs and water, what a lifesaver!! Oh and NO leftovers

I had the 'most fun' if there is a trophy for that and I think I talked to each and everyone there (aha another trophy)!
I only had "ONE REGRET" I was last in the lunch line, well actually I had to send hubby to get mine...and I'll have to take everyone's word that the rest of the food was delicious..(sure wish I'd gotten some of the baked beans)..but I did get a hotdog nice and brown and crispy the way I like them! I might have even got the 'last one'. Next year??? I'm first in line.
You might have to fight Eric about the last dog thing... I know he said he got the last one too! lol
Yeah I try to get everyone fed, and I think we came real close, but the jump in attendance definetly took us by surprise this year! Next year promises to bigger and better, and we will be cooking more stuff for sure.
Had a great time Thanks for the food and door prizes it was all great. It was a really cool event. Now my daughter wants a skid bike and a limbo bike we'll have to see what we can do. That stair stepper bike WOW I found muscles I didn't know I had.
Thanks to everyone who donated to Kyle Hicks! We raised over *$200*, all of which will go to help get him closer to his $500,000 treatment. Thanks for allowing me to take donations, and I can't wait to bring the Conference Bike back next year!

To everyone that participated and organized such a wonderful event. I had a great time meeting people and watching my family mingle with some very fine people. This was our first Coasters event we entered. Never did get the tire aired up on my.... BF Goodrich Black Phantom.....too bad. LOL Hope everyone enjoyed the humor....not enough patches. Anyway...I'm sure we will be back again next year. Oh...And THANK YOU FOR MY NEW CRUISER. And to think,the lady selling the raffle tickets at registration had to coax me into buying 1 ticket.(Thanks Sweetie) The bike rides like a dream! I don't think it would be possible to top the weekend we had at the show. Let's just hope it happens to another unsuspecting soul next year. It could happen to YOU. So BE THERE ! We will be!
