Wheeling Heritage Trail – West Virginia

The last ride on this vacation. We rode from our hotel in Wheeling to the Wheeling Heritage trail head on Lava street and rode this spur down to where it connects with the portion of the trail that runs North along the Ohio river. At some point the trail becomes (or connects to) the Brooke Pioneer Trail. We continued on this trail until we reached the town of Wellsburg where we had lunch at the Station Grille which is in the old depot. After lunch we rode back to wheeling. 48 miles total. Both trails are paved. There are many neat sights and features along this trail including historical markers, a tunnel, a viaduct, bridges and a working lock and dam on the Ohio river which we were lucky enough to pass by as a barge was coming through.
This ride was part of our Fall 2012 vacation.
