The Prairie Spirit Trail – Ottawa Kansas. September 2002. This trail is a 33 mile rail-to-trail between the towns of Ottawa and Welda Kansas. The railroad, originally the Leavenworth, Lawrence and Galveston Railroad, was constructed in the 1860s and ran from Leavenworth Kansas to Galveston Texas . In 1899 the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad purchased the line and continued operation until 1990. Trail Website.
